In this photograph, Slinkachu has used a tennis ball and a model tree to show people stranded on an island, with no way out. The photographer has used a small depth of field to make the island stand out. In Addition, the island is on a power spot. In my opinion, the creativity is very good as they have used the weather (the puddle) in their work and have made it clear that they were going for a desert island theme.
In this Photograph, a man is sat by a waterfall, looking down at the water. I think the photographer is trying to show sadness, because the man is knelt down and staring into the water. The photographer has used a small depth of field as the background is not in focus. Also, they have used natural lighting as it is an outside scene, in the daylight. Also, the person looking down into the water is on a power spot. In my opinion, I think that picture is very good because it is very creative in the way they have used a drink as a waterfall and they portray sadness by having the man facing straight down into the water.
Other Artists Work - William Kass
William Kass is a photographer who like Slinkachu, uses miniature figures in their work, however, William uses food to create the scenes. He uses the food and mini figures to create everyday scenes such as cycling and flights.
In This photograph, there is cyclists going down a road in what looks like a forest. I feel like Kass hasn't tried to get a message across with this photo. Kass has used a medium depth of field as the background is out of focus but the cyclists and the road and trees around them are in focus. Also, the lighting looks as if its a regular outside cycling trip in the daytime. In my opinion, this photo is very good as William Kass has used food in a very interesting way and created a forest, with a road going through it and cyclists racing each other.
In this Photograph, Kass has used the biscuits/crackers to create a diving board and a blue liquid to create water and used a model stadium, as you can see in the background to create an Olympic diving place. Also, in terms of technicality, I like the use of a small depth of field because you can see the divers and board very clearly and the stadium in the background to give it a professional feeling.
Comparison of the artists
In my opinion, both of the artists are very good at what they do and how they make their work unique. Their creativity is great and the way Kass uses food to set the scenes for his photos is extraordinary. Slinkachu focuses more on bad events and towns whereas Kass focuses more on sport and other random things.
More artists - Pierre Javelle and Akiko Ida
Frenchman Pierre Javelle and Japanese woman Akiko Ida both studied at the school of decorative arts in Paris,France and in 2002, collaborated to develop the concept of using mini train figures to tell stories about food. Their stories are usually told by 2 images, one very close up of a figure and one more zoomed out at the whole scene, this is called the diptych format.
I think this picture is very creative because the close up shows a woman practicing tennis or having fun by herself then the zoomed out picture creates the story and shows that its a match of tennis. I also like how they have used the watermelon and put a net on it to make a tennis court. This picture also shows professionalism as they even made the effort to get an umpire rather than just 2 people playing tennis. In terms of technicality, the exposure is perfect in both images and the figures are in focus in both images.
I think this picture is very good because the close up shows a man and his child walking their dog in the snow and the other picture shows how they have made the scene.
Test Shoot
We did tests shoot to practice using the figures and getting them in focus
My Best Image
I think this is my best picture because the small depth of field has made the figure the only thing in focus and the background is out of focus, which makes the figure stand out more
My Worst Image
I think this is my worst image because the over exposure makes the figure blend in with the background and it doesn't stand out. Also, the figure is slightly out of focus.
Shoot 1 Plan - The Potion
For my first Slinkachu shoot I would like to have some Slinkachu figures using a ladder trying to reach a bottle while its on top of something
Props: VERY small bottle and Slinkachu figures and a small ladder
Props: VERY small bottle and Slinkachu figures and a small ladder
My Worst Image
I think this is my worst picture because I do not like the angle I took the picture from and I failed to get anything in focus.
My Best Image
I think this is my best picture because the figure is in focus, the background isn't visible due to shadows in the background and its clear that the figure is using the ladder to get up to the bottle.
This shoot - write up
I think that this shoot could've went better, however I could not find what angle was the best and I was struggling to get the figure in focus. I think all the images clearly show that the person is trying to get up to the potion using the ladder.
Test Shoot 2
My Worst Image
Although this picture is good, I feel as though its my worst because I think it is too zoomed out. Also, the fly is not in focus.
My Best Image
I think this is my best image because the figures and the fly are in focus and the exposure is perfect.
Shoot 2 Plan - Love Locks
For my next shoot I want to use a couple who will be standing on a padlock which is attached to a fence.
My Worst Image
I think this is my worst picture because it is very over exposed
and nothing is visible. I also feel like it is too zoomed in.
and nothing is visible. I also feel like it is too zoomed in.
My Best Image
I think this is my best picture because it is perfectly exposed, the figures are in focus and the depth of field is small, so the background is blurred out, which makes the figures on the lock stand out more.
This shoot - write up
I think this shoot went badly. This is because it was really bright outside so it was hard to perfect the exposure and I couldn't find a good padlock to use.
Shoot 3 Plan - The Homeless Man
For this shoot I would like to have a person who looks as if they are homeless, holding a sign asking for money or food and some pennies next to him.
My Worst Image
I think that all of my pictures were relatively similar in terms of focus and exposure, however I think this is my worst picture because it is lighter than I hoped.
My Best Image
I think this is my best picture because the focus is on the guy and the coins are also in focus while the foreground isn't. I think this was also very creative as I used old coins to show that homelessness has been a thing for a long time although it shouldn't have.
Shoot 4 Plan - The Dock of Love
For this shoot I would like to have a couple hugging on the edge of a beach or dock.
My Worst image
I think this is my worst picture because there was something in the way of the camera and the most of the picture is darker than I hoped. I don't like the dark area at the top left because it looks like the ocean suddenly cuts off. The sand changing colour because of the darkness I feel is bad because it makes the beach look less real.
My Best image
I think this picture is good because the figures are in focus and its clear that they are stood on a beach hugging, I also like how the foreground is slightly out of focus to make the figures stand out more
My Best edited image
I edited this image to crop the bottom out because it looked like the camera was blocked. I like this image because it is more zoomed in than my original best image so it looks better. also, I got the figure in focus on the left which I think looks better than them being in the middle. I think this is my favourite because it is more zoomed in than my other photos, the people are on a power spot and the ocean is not in focus which makes the people stand out more.
This shoot - write up
I think this shoot was good because it was creative and different to the rest of the class. However, if the camera wasnt blocked by the side of the container I used then it would've been a lot better. Despite the difficulties, I think this shoot was good because it was easy to get the figures in focus and it was clear to see what was going on.

Evaluation
I think my Slinkachu project was ok, but it could have been better if I was more creative. I think my first shoot was not great as it was hard to get a good angle and focus with how I wanted the photographs to turn out, also, I now feel that it was not creative and does not tell a story. My second shoot was an improvement, however I think that shoot doesn't tell a story either and I did not get many pictures for that shoot. My third shoot showed huge improvement, as it told the story that homelessness was bad and I showed it had been happening for a long time by using very old coins next to the person on the bench, which I thought was quite creative. Also, I executed the photo shoot better than my first two, using a medium depth of field and getting perfect exposure on most pictures. My fourth shoot was in my opinion, my best shoot as it was very creative, tells a story about love and I acquired some great photos for that shoot with a small depth of field and I kept changing focus points to experiment and get the best possible picture.
